10,091 MTs of onions will import from 5 countries

Day to day increasing onion price in retail shop at dhaka, capital city of Bangladesh due to India ban exports.

The price of the spice has gone up by Rs 10 to Rs 20 per kg in the retail market. Retail buyers have been seen returning empty-handed from many shops to buy onions.

On Monday (September 14) night, a few retail markets in the capital's Mirpur, Jowar Sahara were seen.

Vendors said that since the evening, a large number of buyers have flocked to the shops to buy onions. However, in some shops, the buyers had to return empty-handed without getting onions.

A few shops in Jowar Sahara can be seen selling Indian onions at Rs 60 to Rs 75. And local onions are being sold at 60 to 70 rupees.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Shahid, owner of Taj General Store in Sheorapara, Mirpur, told that although there were no buyers of onions since the afternoon, the sale of onions has increased since the evening. Onions are being sold here at 65 to 70 rupees. The price is a little higher than in the morning.

He added that one sack of onion was sold after dusk. I heard that the wholesale market price has gone up overnight. So I have to buy onions at tomorrow's price.

Abdul Khaleq, another onion-potato seller in Mirpur, said, "We have also increased the price as the price has gone up in the wholesale market." I heard that India has stopped exporting onions. That is why the price of onion is going up. Tomorrow it will increase by 10 to 20 rupees per kg.

Getting hint of a possible export ban by India, the traders of the country initiated the process well ahead to import onions from alternative countries.

They began the process of taking import permission from September 3.

According to the information provided by Chittagong Plant Quarantine Station (Sea Port), 24 enterprises have so far taken permission for importing 10,091 metric tons of onions from China, Myanmar, Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey.
